Ithaca Kitty, 2018
Screenprint Ink on Paper
18” x 11” x 5”

Ithaca Kitty, a sew-at-home pattern for a stuffed toy cat, was patented in October 4, 1892. Designed to be printed on a half-yard of Muslin for 10 cents, nearly 200,000 were sold in the first holiday season. This Ithaca Kitty is drawn directly from the prototype sketch included in the 1892 patent US483727A, filed by William Hazlitt Smith and Celia Smith and printed by Arnold Print Works, now the home of Mass Moca. This Ithaca Kitty is designed directly from the 1892 patent and went on a tour of Mass Moca in 2019.
