How to Operate a Book is an artist facsimile of a 1986 VHS publication, “ How to Operate a Book.” The original VHS tape was found in the Printmaking and Book Arts studio by Christopher Kardambikis at George Mason University. How to Operate a Book is the sequel artist book to Paper, Paper Film (2019).
How to Operate a Book was funded in part through a Faculty Research and Creativity Grant through the College of Fine Arts at Carnegie Mellon University. This multiple was built by hand by the artist with extra help by Max Tristan Watkins.
The VHS tape is hand built from Colorplan Paper, PVA glue, acetate and digital print. The VHS Box is a clamshell box made with Davy book board, book cloth, and digital print that is hand perforated. Signed and editioned by the artist.
