Good Imports
2009-2011
Woodblock Print on paper, Screenprint on fabric wrapped upon found objects

Good Imports is a collection of objects made in China that have been discarded. These objects have been wrapped in the style of fabric reserved for the cloth-covered boxes that house the “good imports” from China: teapots, medicine balls, mah-jong games and stone seal sets. The fabric is individually hand printed and then swathed around the objects, removing their function and turning them into “non-threatening” sculptural objects. Through that labor, objects are given heightened cultural value, preserved as art instead of trash.
